I’m kind of a kidult.

No, I don’t wear diapers anymore or suck my thumb (not even when I’m scared and there’s no one around!); but when it comes to fashion, I must admit that I tend to choose items that somehow take me back to my childhood.

According to a kidult is “A so-called grown-up who doesn't want to grow up (or at least act like an adult) and would instead prefer so-called "children's" stuff for entertainment, like cartoons, toys, comic books, etc. He or she also enjoys colorful "kiddie" snacks like breakfast cereal and Spaghetti-O's and dresses like a teenager or perhaps younger …”

I started thinking about this Peter Pan Syndrome more deeply, especially about how it manifests in fashion, music and TV. I had lots of fun doing so!

Yeah, I totally dig this style …

As for the fashion world, Tarina Tarantino is probably the designer who brought this trend to Hollywood with her Hello Kitty pieces of jewelry. Music and movie stars such as Katy Perry and Cameron Diaz wear her necklaces, pins and hair bands even on the red carpet. Tarina has different lines (“Acid Alice”, “Barbie”, just to mention a couple), all of which can be purchased in stores and on-line.

In Argentina, my favorite stores which nail this style are Pesqueira tm and Objeto. DAM is also one of my favorite stores and usually comes up with playful designs.

Regarding music, the first song that comes to my mind is inevitably, “I Don’t Wanna Grow Up” by The Ramones. But in order to post a video of a song that is not so popular (at least here in Argentina), I want to introduce you to Lacrosse, a Swedish band that I really like.

There are lots and lots of TV series which characters behave like kids, but I’ll mention one of my favorite ones right now.

The Office
I love Jim and Dwight’s relationship and the pranks Jim plays on Dwight, hehe.

If you want to check if you’re a kidult too, here’s a link to test yourself. (by Philip Pullman),5961,638109,00.html

I want this book so bad!

I know I should read books, not just look at their photos … But come on! “Romance” by Chris Craymer is SO damn pretty!

You can purchase it online here:

The Bicentenary

EA Moda is a fashion school which is always present in Argentina’s most important fashion events. This time at the BAAM (Buenos Aires Alta Moda), we had the chance to see a fashion parade which motto was the Bicentenary.

The designers’ creations were not meant to reproduce the exact garments that were worn 200 years ago, their task was to reinterpret the issue of the colonization and embody those features that represent our idiosyncrasy in their creations.

The fashion parade was divided into different categories portraying the clothes worn in colonial times, those worn by the grenadiers, colorful pieces to represent the “carnavilito” and other ones connected with tango.

These are my favorite pieces of clothing:

This was probably my favorite look.

Guarda Pampa

I want to have Sole Solaro's legs! Hehe.

This is the kind of skirt that I'd definitely buy!

NARU by Samaire Armstrong.

I’ve never thought of Samaire Armstrong as an awesome actress, but as a cute little person with a great sense of style. Born in Japan in 1980, this actress became famous mostly thanks to the TV series The OC, where she played Anna; although she’s been in other popular programs such as “Entourage” and “Dirty, Sexy, Money”. She also starred a few movies (e.g. “It’s a Boy/Girl Thing”) and co-starred a bunch more (e.g. “Just my Luck”).

However, in my humble and subjective opinion, none of her roles has stood out as much as her own clothing brand: “Naru” (that’s the Japanese term for “becoming”). Not only have her designs been featured in Vogue, Elle, Cosmogirl and In Style, TV directors have let Samaire wear them to dress her characters. Naru has stockists in Hawaii and California and hopefully, Samaire’s clothes will be available in many other places in the future.

I, too, have the Peter Pan Syndrome!

I got to know street artist Katie Sokoler thanks to an article published in the American Airlines magazine posted in a fashion blog I accidentally ran into. Her blog is just amazing! I really wish I could do something like what she does in my own neighborhood.

Street fashion in Buenos Aires city.

Blogs about street fashion have become very popular since the blogging activity boomed. I like them because they let me give a sneak peek at what normal people are wearing around the globe. On The Corner Street Style is the best known in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

These are my favorite looks featured in this blog:

Knit & Weave.

The belief that knitted clothes and accessories are only suitable for low temperatures does no longer apply. Fiorini Wichmacki is my favorite designer when it comes to this sort of products. Her collections are always rich in colors, design and versatility. Her accessories can be combined with all kinds of outfits giving you a different touch that lets you stand out from the rest.

If Argentina seems a little too far from where you are, you can peek at her designs in Australia and Finland as well.

Face the music.

I do too! Fortunately, I haven’t been low for a long time now, but I’ve been buying records regardless.

My latest purchases have been:

• “The BBC Sessions” by Belle & Sebastian.
• “Meiko” by Meiko.
• “Made of Bricks” by Kate Nash.
• “The Boy With No Name” by Travis.
• “The Caterpillar” by Odland.

Walls that talk.

A cheap way to brighten up your walls is to go to the nearest flea market, buy a bunch of plates of different sizes and colors, maybe have them printed with daring words or expressions and then hang them onto your wall. If you want to go further, you can even use other objects and make a lovely collage.

And if you’re not the DIY kind of person, you can just buy the plates on Etsy.

Sleep on it.

American actress, film director and writer, Miranda July, has come up with some cute pillowcases. I want the one on the left!

You can get them at:

I am currently listening to …

The Morning Benders, a band I accidentally ran into while looking for material for my classes.

I’ll say no more, just hit the play button.

Yours Truly Presents: The Morning Benders "Excuses" from Yours Truly on Vimeo.

If I were in Manhattan, …

I’d definitely go on a shopping spree during the day and then go to the theater to see “A Behanding in Spokane” in the evening.

Seeing Christopher Walken on stage sounds enticing enough; if you add Sam Rockwell, a cool setting such as a hotel and a plot about a man who’s been looking for his missing left hand for half a century, then that’s something that I, myself, wouldn’t wanna miss.

To make things even more attractive, the scenes take place “in a seedy hotel room that might have been decorated by Edward Hopper” (my favorite American painter!), as stated by The New York Times.

If you’re so lucky to live within walking or driving distance to the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater, don’t miss it.

A couple of paintings by Edward Hopper.

If you're having the hell of a day ...

give Poppy a chance to cheer you up ;-).

What a nice way to pop it!

I SO wanna have popcorn right now! Can’t wait to use such a lovely device.

I’m going to the store to get some kernels and loads of butter, yum, yum! I wonder how long it’ll take them to create real low-calorie butter, sniff.

I love her style.

If I could choose anybody’s wardrobe, I’d totally pick Zooey Deschanel’s. This 30-year old American actress is among my favorite artists in terms of style. She is, in my opinion, a great actress and quite a good singer as well. Liked by both males and females, she has an interesting rèsumè and I believe her most interesting jobs are yet to come.

I remember she first caught my eye when I saw her as a bottle blonde supermarket employee in “The Good Girl”. I haven’t seen all her films, but when I am at Blockbuster wondering what movies to choose, Zooey’s always have a great chance of coming home with me.

She’s got great features to carry a 40’s kind of look with dignity and she can also be a girl next door with an interesting twist.

“Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?” By her band “She & Him”.
